ACB Wales Region - Adran Cymru
Bursaries, Grants and Travel Awards

The Wales Region Committee has agreed that a limited number of bursaries may be offered to Wales Region members towards research and education.

Examples of suitable applications include funding towards attendance at scientific conferences both within and outside the UK, grants towards funding of a clinical research project and funding to support visits or secondment to other laboratories or healthcare institutions in order to further research and education needs.

Awards will be limited to a maximum of £1,500. Evidence of attempts to gain funding from NHS Trusts or other appropriate sources will be required.

Applications may be made at any time by submitting the application form by email to the Treasurer of the Wales Region. Applications will be considered on a regular basis by a sub-committee of the Region to include the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Representative to the Education Committee.

A frequent condition for granting a bursary will be a request that the applicant provides a written report or paper to the Region following completion of the activity.

The availability of bursaries will be reviewed on an annual basis taking regard of the current financial position of the Region and the number of applications granted. Members will be kept informed of future availability via the Regional Website.

Continuing Professional Development

Council has defined Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as:

"A range of learning activities through which health professionals maintain and develop throughout their career to ensure that they retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice."

Continuing Professional Development for ALL registrants commences on 1st July 2006. All registrants will be required to engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities with effect from 1st July 2006. Registrants will need to record their activities in their portfolio and if selected for audit, to complete the CPD profile which will then be assessed by CPD assessors.

All registrants will receive information on CPD by post in May 2006
